About
Knysna has recently been awarded a permanent (low powered transmitter) Commercial Sound Broadcasting Licence, to operate a Radio Station based in the Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre.
KNYSNAS own Radio Station – At last. No more listening to the Traffic in Joberg or the weather in Cape Town. The journey to achieve this has been a long one – four years in fact since the initial licence application was submitted to Icasa – the Government department responsible for broadcasting in South Africa.
So what is it all about??
Well KNYSNA FM, broadcasting 24 hours a day seven days a week, is as the licence suggests a Commercial Station, but one that is here to entertain and inform the Knysna population, both residents and tourists. The format of the Station is 80% music and 20% talk, with the language being mainly English, but a fair sprinkling of Afrikaans
The Station will feature live presenters from 6:00am until 9:00pm. The 11 presenters who are involved at the moment, are a mixture of ages from 20 years upwards, and come from all parts of the town.
The music policy of the Station – which is determined by the Station Manager – is a mixture of easy to listen too music, mainly chosen from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, but with a "Playlist" of recent hits and music from South African artists and groups.
